Who started Thankful Thursday?
There’s no definitive answer to this question, but some credit the origin of Thankful Thursday to a 2003 paper by Emmons and McCullough. The study, titled “Counting Blessings Versus Burdens: An Experimental Investigation of Gratitude and Subjective Well-Being in Daily Life,” had participants write down things they were grateful for every day for ten weeks.
The paper included a “count your blessings” exercise. Participants were told to write five things they were grateful for weekly.
